EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SINGLE FERRULE TUBE FITTINGS

Thermal cycling and vibration applications are known as some of the most difficult environments for tube fittings. These applications require intense precision, leak-free technology to ensure the tube fitting does not fail under tough conditions. While there are a number of tube fitting options to choose from, engineers require a solution that will minimize risks and provide value for the costs.

To satisfy this need, Parker has developed a single ferrule tube fitting design known as the CPI™ compressed tube fitting. These tube fittings are ideal in process, power and instrumentation applications. With only three pieces required, the fitting is easy to install and provides a strong anti-vibration hold on the tube.

In a recent blog post, Parker reveals the core benefits of single ferrule tube fittings. These include:

1. Fewer leak paths: In single ferrule designs, only two potential leak paths need sealing, while double ferrule fittings have three or more potential leak paths to seal.

2. Less body contact: In single ferrule designs, there is less body seat contact, whereas double ferrule designs contact the body over the entire surface. This allows the end-load to be concentrated in a smaller area and out-perform double ferrule in many applications.

3. Dampen vibration: Single ferrule designs create a cushioning effect that resists against vibration.

4. Better performance in temperature cycling: In temperature cycling applications, metals expand and contract, which causes dimensional changes for fitting connections. Single ferrule designs offer a “spring-loaded” effect that provides constant tension between the fitting body and nut.

5. Ease of installation: Single ferrule fittings require a coated nut, which reduces torque. The coating also allows the fitting to last longer in service, which reduces the need for maintenance.

6. Precision assembly: With fewer components, less can go wrong when it comes to assembly. Single ferrule fittings are also quicker and easier to assemble than double ferrule fittings

Single ferrule fittings are an excellent choice for tough application environments that require a minimized risk for leak paths and damage. To learn more about the benefits of single ferrule tube fittings, read the full article here.
