HOW TO USE PARKER’S THM ANALYZER TO IMPROVE DRINKING WATER SAFETY

In order for public water to become drinkable, it is typically treated with a disinfectant chemical such as chlorine. Although the water is cleared of waste and toxins, disinfection by-products are sometimes formed in the water due to a chemical reaction between the disinfectant and natural, organic compounds. These by-products can pose significant health risks for those who drink them.

Most water supply companies rely on separate laboratories for by-product testing, though these laboratories are not cost or time efficient. Real-time process control cannot be achieved through this method of testing, and could ultimately result in the consumption of contaminated water before testing has occurred.

Parker has created a portable by-product analyzer that allows companies to perform on-site analysis with real-time results. In a recent blog post, Parker lists the major benefits of using a portable THM analyzer, including:

  • Real-time measurement and analysis
  • No sample preparation
  • Long term cost benefits
  • A complete turnkey package

The ability to achieve quick water analysis on site is crucial in avoiding a potential contamination crisis. Through its cost and time efficient method, the portable THM analyzer can actively control by-product levels and help maintain suitable drinking water around the world.
