THE IMPORTANCE OF CONDITION MONITORING IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY

Today, consumers are becoming more conscious of the foods they put into their bodies–paying closer attention to where their food is coming from and straying away from hard-to-pronounce ingredients. The food and beverage industry is now forced to take a different approach to their typical operation in order to satisfy the needs of consumers.

Manufacturers are changing their processes to adapt to the high demands of plant-based foods and fresh, short shelf-life products without artificial preservatives. This calls for a necessary shift in the way food is produced, leading to the investment in new technology and operating models.

In a recent blog post, Parker discussed how condition monitoring can have a significant impact on the quality and operations of the food and beverage industry. Condition monitoring is the process of observing the parameter of conditions in machinery to identify any performance anomalies during operation. Some of these parameters include

  • Temperature
  • Pressure
  • Humidity
  • Vibrations

By properly monitoring these factors, the food and beverage industry can expect improved taste and safety of their products, as well as increased efficiency, productivity and reduced unscheduled maintenance. Over time, condition monitoring indicators will become more predictable, making it easier for manufacturers to take action sooner and prevent serious complications.
